In 2015, GW alumnus Charles "Chuck" Frank (BA '74) established the Charles and Deborah Frank Fund for Veterans studying sustainability. The fund endows a summer fellowship at the Sierra Club supporting the Military Outdoors program. Frank, who sits on the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club, saw the fund as a means to "not only honor our veterans, but also provide them an opportunity to leverage their experiences in ways that will have multiple benefits for the environment, themselves, and the community," according to a 2015 interview (read full article here). While active duty and veteran GW students are given preference, non-military rising seniors minoring in sustainability are also considered for the fellowship.
